Tuesday Reading: 1 Kings 18:30-39
Key Verse: 1 Kings 18:39
39 And when all the people saw, they fell on their faces. And they said, Jehovah, He is the God! Jehovah, He is the God!
Devotion:
How many times have you wanted to “see the power of God”? When your faith is getting low, do you crave to see a sign that will strengthen you again? The people had been worshipping Baal for a while and they were convinced that God was not listening and that Baal was, so much so that they were willing to go up to face God with the backing of their own god. But as we know from the scriptures, Baal was not able to set fire to the sacrifice that the people had laid down in front of him. Why? Because he is not real! On the other hand God showed His Awesome power by turning everything into cinders!
Why should we have to have any proof that God is real? Why should we have to demand our own visible proof? Is it not enough that these things have happened in the past and that they are all recorded in our bibles for us to learn about? Why should we need visible proof for everything? Well, it is because of our own lack of faith that we start to demand visible proof. If we stood by our faith, depending on the Rock that is Christ, then we would not have to demand visible proof because we would continue to see the power of God work in our lives each day.
We see things on the news on television, we read about things happening in newspapers and on the internet and we believe them. Why can’t we just believe what we read in our bibles? Well, we can! We have the choice as to whether we believe any item on the news just the same as we have the choice as to whether we believe the bible. The bible is a full and truthful record of what has happened. It is by no means a complete record but it is full in the sense that God has deemed it enough for us to know; enough to convince us that He is real and that He is all powerful! We need to take God’s Word as our truth, depend on it and know that it is true. When we do that we will begin to see all the miracles that God continues to do without us realising...
Points to Ponder:
Do you still need to see things before you believe them?
Would you be like Thomas and demand to see Christ before you believed?
