Tuesday Reading: Isaiah 44:14-20
Key Verse: Isaiah 44:18
18 They have not known nor understood; for He has shut their eyes so that they cannot see; and their hearts so that they cannot understand.
Devotion:
It is hard to see when you have done wrong or are doing wrong when in your own eyes you think you are doing right. When we think we are heading in the right direction in life we do walk along as if we have blinkers, like a horse being lead through traffic; we learn not to take notice of things around us so that we can focus on what we think is right. So it is with idol worshipping – whether we are physically worshipping an idol or whether we are keeping something else first in our lives instead of God, we still are doing the same thing.
The only way that we are going to be able to see what we are doing is if we are able to see the truth. But how can we see the truth when we are blinkered and can only see the path that we have laid out ahead of ourselves rather than the rest of the world? That is where God’s Word comes in. No matter how much we are blinkered or persuaded otherwise, God’s Word has the ability to allow us to see what else is actually going on. I am not saying that the first time you pick up your bibles and read them that you will understand everything; far from it because it may well confuse you the first time because it is so different to your lifestyle. But as long as we continue to read His Word, we will be able to see the truth.
Just like this passage puts it, some people will take part of a branch and use it for firewood and another part of that same branch and make themselves an idol which they will worship. We can see the folly of such an act, but to them they are doing the right thing at the time; they are blinkered. Do you not think that it is time that some of them grew to know the real truth instead of their own blinkered world? They may not like the first impressions, but as long as we stick to the truth and not our own making, they cannot hide it from their hearts for long. Show someone you care by telling them about God.
Points to Ponder:
Are you living in a blinkered world?
Have you read God’s Word today?
