Wednesday Reading: Hebrews 2:1-4

Key Verse: Hebrews 2:1-4
1  Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

Devotion:
Our minds can be compared to a metal bucket that should be used to carry fresh water. As long as we take good care of it and refill it when required, it should last for a very long time; but should we neglect it or abuse it we will be left with a pile of rust before too long rather than an acceptable vessel! If we are to be careful with our minds then we should make sure that we know what is going into them to ensure that the content will not be harmful. If we do neglect what goes into our minds we will quickly find that we do not retain all that we should and that it will be filled with our own worldly pleasures instead of with the spiritual food that we need. We have to find the right balance with which we can continue to serve God effectively and also to enjoy ourselves as God would have us to.

No matter how hard we try by ourselves, we will always find ourselves falling short of the mark because what we desire and what God requires are not normally the same. For that reason we will find that we can serve rebukes upon ourselves and begin to wonder why God allows such things into our lives. We may find that we wander away from God through our own desires to find new ground and then turn to blame God for not supporting us. But truth be told, we are the ones that are polluting our own minds and not God.

We need to remain steadfast in our desire to learn more about God and His will in our lives. We need to be ready to accept His will and not fight against it. We need to be willing to do His will and not bring our own will before His. He has proved Himself through everything He has already done for us. He has shown us His power and glory through the ages. Let us continue to prepare our minds to receive His Word so that we can be useful to Him.

Points to Ponder:
Would you be tempted to drink from a polluted source?

Are you attending to God’s Word?
