Friday Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:9-12
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:12
12 All things are lawful to me, but not all things profit. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
Devotion:
There is always going to be a time in your life when temptation gets the better of you! Adam and Eve proved that from the beginning when they gave in to the temptation of the serpent and went against God’s law. What we need to remember is that God’s Law is not difficult to follow if we are following it willingly; but when we start to give in to the things around us it becomes an issue. The more we look at the things that go on around us and the more that we think they are not so bad, the more we start to believe that they are not that bad and the easier it becomes for us to give in to them! How do you think Satan gets his way?
The law quite clearly states that sinners will not be able to come to God because He has no sin within Him and cannot abide sin. Christ has already gone to the cross to pay for our sins but that payment has to come from Him which means that we must place our faith and trust in Him to do so. If we don’t believe that He can do that then we are not accepting Him as our Saviour. God has given us all the choice as to whether we want to go down that path or run off by ourselves. He has given us the Law so that we may know when we do do things against His will. He has given us our bibles so that we can know what we should be doing. He has given us every opportunity to do things right – but we are the ones who have to make the choice.
We are allowed to go and do anything but there are going to be consequences for doing some things. We can physically put our fingers into a pan of hot oil but there will be consequences (believe me, I know!) but as long as we do heed warnings and follow what is right, we can live a life by Christ’s side and He will present us blameless before God when the time comes. We are not under Satan’s power, we just give in to his suggestions too many times...
Points to Ponder:
Do you give in to temptations?
Are you trusting in Christ?
