Thursday Reading: Colossians 3:23-24

Key Verse: Colossians 3:23
23  And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men;

Devotion:
Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if all people would simply obey such rules as this? But, no matter how much we try to convince people of the benefits of serving Christ, there will always be a multitude of temptations that will take them away from that work for Christ. I suppose it would be like shining a brass plate that is out in the weather, it shines easily if you continue to work with it, but leave it for a few weeks and the job of cleaning and shining gets a whole lot harder. That is how we need to view our work for God. If we leave it to stagnate for a while we will find it hard to get back to yet if we do a little every day we will continue to find it a pleasure and so rewarding.

Our work needs to be focused on God and not on man for as long as we do continue to work for man the only reward that we will ever succeed in obtaining is a reward from man. But when we turn our work to the Lord’s work then we can and should expect our rewards to come from Him! Doing His work because you have to is not right, doing work for Him because you want to is what He seeks from each of us. There is nothing worse than someone who works for you just because they have to and does it all with a long face and heavy heart. Having someone come in to work wanting to please you not only lifts your spirits but also makes for a much better environment.

Our attitude towards God’s work needs to be that of a worker who wants to work for and please God. If we have any other attitude then we may well find that we are more of a hindrance than a blessing! Should you have a job that is not the best (as many have in times like these) you should not change your attitude towards work to suit the environment but rather try to change your spiritual attitude towards the work because you know that working well will please God. Think of the joy you may bring just by praising God in your work because then people will also share in the blessings you get from pleasing God.

Points to Ponder
:
Does work get you down?

Do you keep God in mind with all your work?
