Wednesday Reading: Romans 5:1-5
Key Verse: Romans 5:1
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Devotion:
When you are feeling upset or down the whole world seems to be an uncomfortable place to be and yet when you are happy things are so very different. To most people that sums up their position, they are either happy or sad and everything else falls into place around that. But as Christians we have more; we have the peace of God that is given to us continually through the Holy Spirit. What God gives us is not just peace in our hearts but peace in our lives with what is going on around us. With that peace we are given hope because God has promised us so much more than just this life we live here and now.
I don’t know how some people continue to exist not knowing that they have eternal life after this life on earth. I could not be happy in anything I did unless I knew that God had something more for me to do. I could not be at peace unless I knew God and He knew me! That peace may not be able to make us happy all the time as we go through various trials but that hope that we have will carry us through and make us stronger people after those trials. It is not what we can get out of life here and now but rather what we lay up in heaven for the here-after. That is what gives me my hope.
Christ has promised each one of us a place where our hope will be realised. He has delivered on His promises and continues to do so every day. That hope gives us the strength to face what may come our way and patience to go through those things. That patience works in us to strengthen us through the experience that we gain. Just maybe we have gone through it so we can help someone else, someone who God knows will need a helping hand. God’s love is real. God’s love endures. God’s love gives us hope!
Points to Ponder:
Are you feeling up or down?
Are you allowing Christ to lift you up?
