Friday Reading: 2 Peter 1:19-21

Key Verse: 2 Peter 1:20
20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Devotion:
The law is the law. No, it’s not my vain attempt at emulating Sly Stallone but rather a simple truth that we do tend to ignore! God’s Word is the truth and it is not to be interfered with. If you corrupt the law in any way then you either pay for your crimes or you have something that is no longer the law. The same applies to God’s law. If we change it in any manner then we have created our own law and we no longer follow God’s original design.

We are very fortunate nowadays to have our 66 books tied together that form our bibles in such an easy form to carry around; indeed we even have them on computers and mobile phones too – what would some of the early Christians have given for such a privilege! And yet we do not treat our bibles with the respect that is due to them. I am not talking about making sure that your physical book stays clean and fresh, one of mine has been bitten by a dog, one has almost 10 years of notes throughout and another has been living in pockets for some 30 years – certainly not the freshest. It is how we treat the words, not the physical. God inspired people to write down these words over thousands of years so that we would have the chance at knowing the truth!

If we want to know the truth then we have just got to read God’s word; not to take it lightly and read it like a novel but to sit down and study what God wants us to know. Why else would He have made it possible for us to have such detailed words if He did not want us to know them! God wants us to be a light in a dark place. He knows that we are surrounded by people who do not respect His word. Just one small light will go a very long way in a very dark place. Be that light and shine!

Points to Ponder:
What does your bible look like?

Are you using it to the fullest?
