Sunday Reading: Ephesians 6:13-18
Key Verse: Ephesians 6:14
4 Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness
Devotion:
The more closely you look at God’s Word the more you get out of it and the closer your walk will be with God. This one verse from the Apostles letter to the Church at Ephesus speaks volumes about what we should be considering and how we should be behaving. “Therefore stand”: Don’t give ground, stand your ground when it comes to upholding God’s Word. I had a dream last night when a new convert of some strange religion tried to get an invitation to come and talk to me about her new religion – my reply was swift and kind “Sure, come along, as long as you want to talk about my One True God!”
We have God’s Word. We have our bibles. We have the truth! If we have it then we should be using it! We need to make sure that we do stand by God’s Word and allow other people to see just how much it means to us. Don’t get side-tracked about the things of the earth of the things from other peoples religions – stick to the truth as God has given it to us. We need to have our “loins girded about with truth” and that way we will be sure that our walk with Christ is close and meaningful! What better protection than being by Christ’s side.
If we uphold God’s truth in front of us like we would a breastplate as a soldier, then we can be sure that nothing will be able to strike us down. Putting your trust into God’s Word, The Gospel, and allowing it to protect you from those things coming at you from the evil one will do wonders to your own confidence in His Word. Satan can never and has never been ale to stand against God’s Word. That is why Jesus used it against him with great success. We too have God’s Word and we too can gain from it’s protection – so long as we do use it!
Points to Ponder:
What would you choose to protect you in battle?
Are you using God’s Word?
