Key Verse: John 3:27
27  And John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it is given to him from Heaven.

Devotion:
Isn’t it amazing that when Christ was here on earth many people chose not to believe Him? We find that amazing now because we have had time to study His Word and to deduct that He is the Son of God and yet when He was here and preaching the same many chose not to believe. What more would you think He would have to do than to perform miracles and explain the truth? Well, we are a strange race (human race that is) in that we like to think that we can make our own minds up about anything and everything – including what is real and what is not.

The main thing that stops us from believing the truth is that we do not accept that everything comes from God. Somehow we get to think that we are the inventor and that we control destiny. The more that we build ourselves up the less we think that God is there and the less we are likely to believe that Christ is real. On the other hand, when we do believe that He is real then we love to hear about Him and love to find out more. We then continue to build on that belief until we realise its truth – then we have faith.

Once again we look for experience before we commit our lives to God. We like to have physical proof. We like to have faith in the seen, the tried and tested; but then that is not faith, its knowing the truth. We can continue to try and convince ourselves by earthly means and by earthly proofs but the only true belief comes from heavenly proof and that comes when we do believe and trust in Christ. Then we know the sound of His voice. Then we rejoice at the sound of His voice. Then we know that He is real. It may seem like a chicken and egg situation but God wants us to make the first move so that we do know the truth and not to have it forced on us. He wants us to make the right choice.

Points to Ponder:
What makes you believe in things?

Have you chosen to believe in God?
