Thursday Reading: 2 Kings 8:9-15

Key Verse: 2 Kings 8:10
10  And Elisha said to him, Go and say to him, You shall certainly recover. But Jehovah has shown me that he shall surely die.

Devotion:
There is no way of fooling God because He does and will always know everything that is on our hearts. Back in the days when the prophets were trying to keep the people informed of everything that God wanted them to know we read many a story about them being caught in the middle of the righteousness of God and the evil of man. This is just one case where mans lust for power took over and did exactly what God had said would happen!

Even when Hazael was confronted by Elisha and told of the evil that he would do, Hazael had no problem with going ahead with his lustful feelings. Why then do we expect to be able to get away with things if God already knows what we are going to do? Why should we think that we are above God’s law? The answer is surprisingly simple – we just don’t think!

We don’t think that we will get caught. We don’t think that it’ll make a difference. We don’t see why we should have to do something just because the bible says so. We don’t think we should have to do something when nobody else does. Instead we think we can get away with things... What we have not grasped is that God really does know what we are about to do! If you knew that the police were waiting to trap you, would you willingly walk into their trap? If you knew a kettle had just boiled would you put your hand in it? Why then do we think we can get away with things right in front of God’s eyes? The answer is we cannot! We need to take heed of what God’s Word has to say to us and follow the truth so that we can put our own lustful ways behind us.

Points to Ponder:
How many things do you think you have already got away with?

Do you know that God is still watching you?
