Saturday Reading: Hebrews 4:10-12

Key Verse: Hebrews 4:10
10  For he who has entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from His.

Devotion:
God created everything and then rested for a day. Jesus came and worked on earth and then rested after giving His life. We are now in the same boat because we do have to work before we will enter into our rest... but the order of things should be remembered. When we sin, we are separated from God because of that sin. The only way to be able to be joined back with God is to believe on what Jesus Christ has done for us. That simple belief will ensure that Jesus is willing to ‘believe’ in us and give us the opportunity to be saved from our sins.

There is no great things we have to do other than believe. We do not have to perform a great task or a totally unselfish act before we can receive that gift from God; all we need do is to believe on what He has done for us. Once we have got to that stage we then will find that our lives will change. We will find that we want to find out more about God and that is done through reading and learning from God’s Word. The more head knowledge we obtain the more we will wish to do for Him... so it’s not the fact that we have done so much for Him to start with but more that after we are safe in His arms we want to do more for Him.

So when we find ourselves idle we should be thinking about what we can do for Christ. There is always time each week or even day when we do need rest and we should respect that time and make sure we do use it for rest. But there is also time when we need to commune with God and we need to respect that time too. God’s Word is the complete work that He wants us to know. By getting to know that word we get to know how we can do things for Him after we have got to know Him personally. Living with Christ gives us peace and rest.

Points to Ponder
:
How much do you work each week?

How much time do you reserve for God each week?
