Monday Reading: Isaiah 48:3-8
Key Verse: Isaiah 48:5
5 And I declared it to you from the beginning. Before it happened I revealed it to you; lest you should say, My idol has done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded them.
Devotion:
How many times have you been around trying to do something when suddenly something caused things to happen and you took the credit even though you did not actually make it happen? I’m sure we have all taken credit for doing things that we did not actually do; and that is exactly what many people do in order to promote their own religions. There have been so many little things which people have claimed that their gods have done when clearly it was not possible... I mean, how can a small statue of anyone actually do anything? God does not want us to make statues of Him nor to worship before statues but rather to worship Him alone. As soon as we do that we break the first two commandments!
God made sure that all of these things were written down many years ago so that we would be able to identify the truth from the lies. He has given us His word so that we can read all about it before things happen. If things are not happening the way that God describes it, then things are not coming from Him. If we want to know if something is true then we need to compare it with His word – the truth is easy to find when you look in the right place. When Satan tried to temp Jesus, Jesus used the scriptures to rebuke him.
We may like to think that we know what should be done and how things should happen, but unless we are doing things according to how God has already given us instruction, then we are working against Him. If we gather around where things are happening we will see what everyone else sees; but if we want to find the truth we have to look where the truth is and not where everyone else is gathering... What people say is not necessarily the truth unless it is backed up by God’s Word!
Points to Ponder:
Which truth do you follow?
Do you compare things with God’s Word?
