Devotion:
No matter how good something looks from the outside, you are not going to be able to know what it is like until you test it. You may have a piece of wood that looks fine from the outside but is in fact rotten on the inside and will not hold your weight; by standing on it you will very quickly find out whether it is going to hold your weight though! We don’t want to have to go through life standing on everything to see if it is going to hold your weight so we tend to rely on others for advice and knowledge; the more wisdom the person you ask has, the better chance you will get the right answer.
We need to continue our quest for knowledge and wisdom from God by continuing to read His Word which He has faithfully given us for all generations. As we read His Word we find out what He would want us to do in our lives and can glory in the promises that He has made toward us. With that knowledge we may well get a bit flippant in our lives thinking that everything is always going to be good because we have God on our side... And then along comes something which dashes our hopes because it does not seem to fit in with the plan we thought God had for us!
The sad truth is that we do still live in a world where we are going to face all manner of things that go wrong, both expected and unexpected. It is at those times that we need to be sure that we do know God’s Word so that we can know what we should be doing. He is going to allow things to happen in our lives because He knows that they will strengthen us for the times when we really do need to help out rather than being helped out. Christ continued in everything that faced Him whilst in human form because He knew it to be The Fathers will. If we remain faithful to that extent we too will find great comfort in face of great adversity. Christ is our Hope and Eternal Salvation!
