Saturday Reading: John 8:28-29
Key Verse: John 8:29
29 And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things which please Him.
Devotion:
We can only imagine what it is like to know that all of the people that say they love you will reject you at some stage; but that is what Christ knew even before He was to be lifted up on the cross. Just as the fiery serpent was lifted up on the pole and people were simply to look upon the serpent and believe they would be healed, Christ was about to be lifted up on the cross and all we have to do is look up on the cross and believe that we can be saved from our sins... Christ knew what is was going to be like and yet it pleased Him to do exactly that so that we could live in eternity with Him. What love!
It is only after we realise just what He did that we realise that He is actually our God. It must seem amazing to those who do not believe that a god would lower himself to be like a man but then the gods that people make up are always proud and often vengeful gods who would never lower themselves to mere mortal levels. Jesus knew everything that God had planned and He still continued on in God’s will. He knew that there was troubled times ahead. He knew of the rejection by so many. He knew of the pain and anguish... What love!
His example to us was to follow God’s Word and to follow in His will. His example was to show the uttermost respect for God the Father. His example was to show the love that only the Father deserved. His example was there for us to see so that we may believe. His example was out in the open so that everyone had the same chance to look up and see the truth; those that did, knew the truth. His continual example to us is that we may follow in His footsteps and respect God and love Him for all He does for us.
Points to Ponder:
Do you always obey your parents?
Are you obeying God, your Father?
