Sunday Reading: Colossians 3:12-17
Key Verse: Colossians 3:17
17 And everything, whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.
Devotion:
I am sure that Paul had many occasions to tell people of the love of God and how we can share in that love; but what we also need to remember is that we need to display that love to. It is no use telling people how they should love one another if we do not do the same too. That love is not just showing the people that you do love that you do love them but also taking on a few more things to make sure that others see you in a different light too.
In this letter to the Colossians we are reminded of some of those values that will set us apart from other people: tender mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering, forbearance and forgiveness. This all comes through Christ. It is not something that we can readily change ourselves because we will always be ruffled by someone and fall short of the mark, but by trusting Christ and asking Him for guidance so you can walk in this way, we have what we need through the power of Christ to do exactly that.
By starting with love to God and to oneself we can then start to expand that love to cover more people each day. Through reading God’s word and following what it says we will be strengthened and able to be withstand many pitfalls that come our way. When things start to get us down we then need to go back to basics and start by lifting God up. Through that we will be able to experience God love and then share that love with others again. We can do that by lifting Him up through songs of worship and praise today and every day... Being at church is not all about the experience but being able to sing openly to God gives us the encouragement to use that same love towards others in our lives.
Points to Ponder:
Do you like being happy?
Are you lifting up your love to God through songs and praise?
