Wednesday Reading: Psalm 34:17-19

Key Verse: Psalm 34:19
19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Jehovah delivers him out of them all.

Devotion:
If anyone ever told you that living a life as a Christian was going to be plain sailing then they most likely were either dreaming or were not Christians! I don’t say this lightly because none of would want to hear that becoming a Christian is going to be an uphill battle – none of us look for the hardest battles in life just for fun! When we draw closer to God the evil one will come closer as well to try even harder to change our minds once again – the harder we work for God the more we can expect the evil one to pursue us. This does not mean that the evil one is going to have his way with us always because we have God as our protector.

When we cry out to God He hears us and He will listen and answer. We need to make sure that we do come to Him in the right manner because just expecting Him to be there like someone would expect a paid bodyguard to be there is absolutely the wrong attitude. We enter into a relationship with God and we need to maintain that relationship – not grow apart like employer and employee. God wants us to remain close to Him in our hearts and in our minds so that He can guide us as best as He can. If we look up to Him but do not listen then we will not hear what He wants us to hear!

We would be like a sailor on a stricken boat out at sea trying to figure out what someone on the shore is trying to tell us simply by looking at them. If we want to know what they are trying to tell us then we have to have some means of communication to bring them closer. We have that communion with God through prayer and through reading His word. So long as we keep Him close we will know that we are safe because He will always guide us... so long as we are willing to listen.

Points to Ponder:
How much do you use your phone to keep in touch with people?

How much do you use prayer to keep in touch with God?
