Monday Reading: John 13:15-17

Key Verse: John 13:17
17  If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Devotion:
No matter how many times people show us to do some things we always seem to want to do those same things our own way; why, maybe because we think that we know better for some reason. When we are/were at school we listen to the teachers because they are the ones trying to teach us. If we want to be able to pass that year then we have to remember the things that they teach us and to apply them when it comes time for the exams. Have you ever noticed that the ‘best’ teachers or at least the ones that we think are the best are the ones that teach through example so that we have something to remember?

That is why Christ DID so much of His ministry rather than just talking about it. What better example for us to learn through than our Lord and Saviour doing what should be done so that we can learn what needs be done? Not only was He willing to try and teach us in the best possible way but He lowered Himself to our position so that He could show us the humility through which we should approach our work for God. Each time He would show us His ways He would remind us that there is a reward for those who are willing to follow on in His footsteps.

Just like teachers all try to make sure that their students will get the best marks, Christ wanted us to learn in the best possible way so that we would be best prepared for our life ahead with Him. It is not a little thing that we make sure that we do make it to heaven. If we fail at school work we may well still be able to do things with our lives, but if we fail in our bid to know Christ then we have failed for all eternity. Christ has given us the head knowledge in the best possible way He could. We now have to make that decision with our hearts and then to apply those ways through His example to our lives in our daily walk with Him. Be encouraged for the rewards are blessings from God!

Points to Ponder:
What is/was you best subject at school?

Are you learning about Christ with the same gusto?
