Thursday Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-4
Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:4
4 And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.
Devotion:
One thing that God wants us to make sure of is that we continue to give His Word out to future generations as we learn to live in Him and He in us. We are obviously willing to teach our children all about life and how to handle it, but what we really need to make sure is that they know about God as well. It is not a small thing that we should know Him and He us because there is no other way to heaven other than through Jesus Christ our Lord; we cannot work or pay our way to heaven no matter how much we do or have. The apostles who wrote these words for us to remember were guided by God in what to write down but each one of them expresses those things in their own words; but all agree that Christ is the way the truth and the life.
When you go to school you can very quickly identify the teachers who want to be there to teach and those who are just there for the money or because they have to be there. Their attitude is very different; thankfully most teachers are there because they want to be there. It is not fair to pick on a single profession but this is one which we can all identify with readily. The same has to be with our attitude to teaching others about God. If we are not going to be doing it willingly then those that we try to teach will see right through us. God does not want His position weakened through weak people but rather strengthened through people who are willing to be strengthened through Him.
It is not for our glory or our profit that we should be taking the name of Jesus with us. It should be because we want to, because we love our Lord and God, because we love other people, because we know we can make a difference because we saw that when we first learned about God. This is one of the few occurrences where I think the saying “it not the winning but the taking part that counts” is applicable. We strive with and for competition, but we should never do that when Christ is involved...
Points to Ponder:
Who taught you the truth about God?
Are you ready to tell someone else?
