Monday Reading: Hebrews 4:14-16
Key Verse: Hebrews 4:16
16 Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Devotion:
As we look back over our bibles we find out that there were a multitude of different types of priests, prophets, kings and judges who all had some part in guiding the people who were willing to listen. Then we come to the New Testament and we find out we have a more sure thing than of old because we have a Great High Priest that is Jesus Christ. He is our Prophet, our King, our Judge, our Guide and our Teacher. He is the only Son of God and He alone is the one who was able to lay His life down and to then take it up so that we could have our sin debt lifted from our shoulders.
We need to make sure that we remember that and that we stick fast to that belief. We need to make sure that we also remember all the proof that is right in front of us showing us exactly what Christ has done for us. He was the one who came as a human being to live amongst us and to show us that it is possible to live a life that is pleasing to God. He knows that we will not attain that without His help, but He has already made that possible through what He has done. Now we just require faith in all that He has already done.
We no longer need blind faith in things that we have been promised but have never seen. We have our bibles which describe exactly what has already come to pass. Jesus was tempted in just the same way as we are tempted. He had to face Satan himself in his temptations – we just face the world. Jesus did not shout out to God for help, nor did He shout out for angelic support. Instead He called upon the very word of God and through His perfect faith was able to defeat Satan in every way. If He can do that through words, think how much we can do through calling on His name? He is our Saviour. He is our protector. Lift up your worries and your problems to the One who is able and willing to save us all!
