Sunday Reading: Daniel 3:16-18

Key Verse: Daniel 3:18
18  But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

Devotion:
There are always going to be times in our lives when we are faced with something different and we will not know what the outcome is going to be. What we do at those times is what shapes us for the rest of our lives – that is what character building is all about. It is no small thing that some people will cave in and go with the flow when faced with adversity. It is also great to see people standing up in the face of adversity when they are not sure of their own outlook. But this is one lesson that we talk about but find hard to carry out!

What are you going to do when push comes to show and you are faced with standing up for God or facing an uncertain future. I know that I have faced this sort of situation and I have chosen God instead of the world; and the more that I am able to see How much He looks after me and cares for me, the more that I will be able to stand up to bigger and bigger threats. I am certainly not ready for the likes of Satan to have a go at me, but that is one that I will most certainly leave up to Christ.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego all took a firm stance and said that they would continue to obey God instead of any false god or person that they were required to worship by man-made laws. They had conviction to stand firm in God rather than to give in and go the way of the world. What they faced would break most of us – a fiery furnace! I don’t like burning my hand in the oven never mind my whole body! Christ has promised us that He will be there for us and will continue to protect us so long as we put our faith and trust in Him; and that is what has to happen first! We have to put our faith and trust in Him and then He will deliver us – not the other way round “deliver me and then I will trust you” because that is the way of the world and not God’s promises.

Points to Ponder:
Do you trust people?

Are you trusting God fully?
