Saturday Reading: Ephesians 5:25-27

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:25
25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it,

Devotion:
When it comes to trying to explain love we try to draw parallels with the relationships that we have with others in order to explain how our relationship should be with Christ. But if truth be told, none of our relationships with others will come close to how much love we owe God. We could try to show love through people giving their lives for their country and for others but it goes a whole lot further than that and unless we get on board with that ethos then we are not going to get very far in love.

It is no good love being one sided nor is it any good pretending that what you have is anything to do with love – the gap between love and lust is as far apart as life and death are. Christ so loved us that He gave His life for us while we were yet to get to know Him; but it is so much more than that. Christ instituted the church and He gave Himself for the church. If you don’t want to be part of that church then that is your choice. But let’s dig a bit deeper...

Christ wanted the church to be able to be presented to God the Father as a bride should be presented to her husband on her wedding day – in the best possible light. Why else would we do so much for that special day other than to present ourselves as best we can before our prospective partners? Christ made sure that He could cleanse us and perfect us before God. The only way He could do that was to do exactly what He did – to come to us as a Human and give His own life in our stead. We now need to take a long look at what Christ has done for us and acknowledge that by loving Him back for all that He has done! If you ever want to rekindle your feelings for someone then you should remember them in the best possible light, the time when you fell in love with them and the time when they showed you their love for you.

Points to Ponder:
How do you remember your love?

Are you giving Christ that same attention?
