Sunday Reading: Proverbs 22:8

Key Verse: Proverbs 22:8
8  He who sows iniquity shall reap vanity; and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Devotion:
No matter how many people you look at and think about how doing things wrong can benefit you the reality is that they cannot. Yes we do see many people doing things wrong and even evil things being done and we see that those people seem to enjoy a good life and... well we could go on about describing all the earthly things but the reality is that those things are just earthly. No matter how much money you can gain, belonging or other earthly possessions, nothing of what you gain here can be taken to heaven! That means that in eternity, everything we have here is but dust...

The more we like to build up earthly treasures and the like the more we are becoming vain because the only profit we have is earthly profit. Is it so bad to have earthly profit? Far from it because there are many things that will lift up your soul but it is the way that we go about things that brings us down. The more we get involved in the world the more we find that we are willing to bend the rules just like all the other people around us. The more that we bend the rules the more that we separate ourselves from God. The more that we do that, the more that we find that we break down our relationship with Him.

No matter how much we build up things on earth the reality is that they end as soon as we die. No they won’t go up in a puff of smoke because there will probably be a long queue of people waiting to pick up the crumbs, but as far as we are concerned, we no longer have them. We may like to think that we are in charge of so much on earth and we might like to think that we have built up an empire where we have followers or people that we are in charge of – well, guess what, when we pop our clogs they are probably going to be the ones that breathe a sigh of relief! Why should we even try to do that if we know that it may be damaging to their souls right now? God wants us to learn from Him. He is JUST!

Points to Ponder:
Do you have your own empire?

Do you realise what happens when you die?
