Christmas Eve 2010

Friday Reading: Psalm 50:16-17

Key Verse: Psalm 50:16
16  But to the wicked, God says, What is it to you, to declare My Precepts, and to take up My covenant in your mouth?

Devotion:
One thing about doing last minute shopping is that you are close enough to Christmas to be able to say “Merry Christmas” to everyone that you meet but what has saddened me about shopping is the amount of people that are no longer mentioning the word Christmas. That has not stopped me saying it and it has even brought a smile to some people’s faces too. But that has also brought home the thought that so many people may well mention the word Christmas but will not know the truth. Yes they will know about shepherds, wise men, a star and a baby being born in a stable but the true meaning of Christmas is being lost in the crowd.

When I was a youngster I won a commendation in an art competition where we had to depict “lost in a crowd” in some manner. My painting was of a baby crawling through the grass but I fear that if I were to enter that same competition now I would want to draw a single soul lifting up their heartfelt prayers to God in a church with many people in it. How sad it is that so many people will know some of the story of our Saviour Jesus Christ and yet will not get to know Him personally this Christmas. Just maybe we will be able to make a difference. Just maybe we will be able to shed some light.

These words here read in our bibles are about hypocrisy but I am not going to harp on about being a hypocrite but rather give us all a reminder that this is the season to be merry because we can celebrate the truth about Christmas. We can celebrate the truth that our Saviour was born to a virgin over 2000 years ago so that we would be able to be with our Loving God for eternity! We can celebrate that Christ loved us so much that He set everything in motion right from the start. We can celebrate that God continues to bless every one of us who fully trust in His name. What will you do tomorrow?

Points to Ponder:
Show someone you care tomorrow...

Show God you care!
