Saturday Reading: 2 Peter 1:3-7
Key Verse: 2 Peter 1:4
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Devotion:
It is our faith that joins us with Christ. It is our belief in Him that keeps His close to us at all times… Well, that is how we see it. But in reality God is the One who is walking by our sides at all times. He is the One who continues to make sure that we do have support and that we do have Him with us wherever we are. We continue on in our lives and at the times when we show great faith we feel that He is closest to us because we can turn and see Him. But when we start to falter and when we start to feel weakest, we then lose sight of our precious God because we are probably looking at all the things around us instead of depending on Him.
There will be times in our lives when we do feel weak and overburdened but those are the times when we do need to remember our faith most of all; those are the times when we need to remember the promises that have come before us, the promises that have been shown, tried , tested and proven. Those are the things that should remind us that we have a God that has always been here for us and will always be here, even when we are looking the other way. It is going to be those distractions that featured large and most in our lives before we met Christ that will take on a bigger significance when we feel weak. It is going to be our past lives and our past lust that will work against our faith – so we need something that is going to remind us and strengthen us as we walk with Christ.
So when we do feel at our best with Christ we need to change and few things in our own lives so that we will remember just how much He has already done for us. This letter reminds us of some of those things we need to fasten securely in our lives: virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity or love. If we are able to build up those traits when we are strongest, they will stick with us when we get weak and strengthen us so that our faith remains strongest when the world seems to be fighting us most.
Points to Ponder:
Do you feel weak?
Have you allowed God to build you up?
