Thursday Reading: John 3:16-17

Key Verse: John 3:16

16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Devotion:

I know it has only been a few weeks since I used these verses, but to me these are the two verses that made me whole. Before getting to know these verses I was lost, but through learning these I got to know Christ and because of that I now have a certain and bright future ahead of me. If I were not to tell people of this then I would not be doing what Christ has told us to do – to go out and tell people of His wondrous love!

One of the songs that has been ringing in my head over this Christmas period is “Go tell it on the mountain…” and I know that some of you will now be singing this for a few hours or even days… but it is extremely good news! Christ came to earth so that He could save us from our sins. Do you actually know how incredible that is? It is only going to sink in when you stop and think of exactly what He has done. He is GOD! Why should He care for little old me? Why should He love me so much that He was willing to give everything up and come and live as a mortal human being? Because He knew that it was not the end. He knew that by doing this He could show us the bright future we do have with Him as well!

So I challenge you to sing that song with me – but not just to hum the tune or to go and play it and sing along – but to sit down and realise what you are saying by singing those words “Go tell it on the mountain”. We need to take this wonderful good news that Christ has come and that He has paid the price so that He can save us from our sins! But we need to get up there on the mountain tops and shout it to the world, not to whisper it into our friend’s ears in fear of upsetting others. This is GOOD news and we need people to know it!

Our God is awesome and nothing we do will change that fact. No matter how lazy we are, there will always be someone to take His Word forward – because that is what He has promised us - but we know that He also wants us to take that Word with us…

Points to Ponder:

Did you remind others of Christ last year?

How are you going to remind others this year?
