Monday Reading: 1 John 2:7-11
Key Verse: 1 John 2:9
9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness until now.
Devotion:
One thing that we must always remember is that the Gospel that Christ gave to us, though it was new, is born from old and has always been. Or to put it another way, Christ came to fulfil the scriptures and not to invent anything new; neither is it a new religion nor a new Gospel, just the fulfilling of everything that had already been written down and taught to us. That means that God’s Word has not changed but rather has been fully explained – if only we will listen.
Christ had to remind us of the fact that we are human and that we go off on tangents at almost every opportunity! He had to remind us of the fact that we are weak and that we give in. He had to remind us that our ways that we think are so straight are in fact quite corrupt. Our human emotions get in our way all the time and force us off track without us realising what is happening. That is the side that we have to be very aware of because it is the side that Satan will attack so that he can try to drive a wedge between us and God. Don’t let him get the better of you!
If we are going to say that we love our Lord and that we are Christians, then we are going to have to live up to that which we say. We cannot be saying one thing and then doing another because that will be seen as hypocritical by everyone else. We cannot say that we love others but secretly keep a hatred for someone inside. Christ wants us to be totally honest with our feelings with Him so that we will never be tempted to lie to Him. We cannot hide our sins from Him to start with, so why allow Satan to get his way with you? The more we hide behind lies, the more we will begin to think that it is OK to tell those lies. The more we do lie, the more we separate ourselves from God. Stop the separation and come back to God in humbleness…
Points to Ponder:
How many time do you lie?
Are you hiding your own feelings?
