Friday Reading: Ezekiel 3:1-4

Key Verse: Ezekiel 3:3

3  And He said to me, Son of man, cause your belly to eat, and fill your belly with this roll that I give you. Then I ate it; and in my mouth it was like honey for sweetness.

Devotion:

Very similar words as these are given to John in the book of Revelations where God gives the prophet something to digest so that they may take it forward to the people; that is God’s Word. When we take God’s Word and sincerely read it we find such treasures in it that we wonder how man could ever have come up with anything like this by himself – then we know that it is through God’s inspiration that we have His Word. Our bibles are such treasures that lay dormant until we do read them. The Good news that is proclaimed from them pleases us, lifts our spirits and rejuvenates us as well as giving God all the glory. But when we have read it, as pleasant and sweet as it is to read, we find that it leaves a bitter aftertaste in our bellies.

How could such a wonderful thing ever make us feel bad? Well, it is not the Word of God that is making us feel so bad because we have tasted it and have tasted how good and sweet it is. It is the realisation afterwards that we are undone that gives us that bitter aftertaste in our bellies. It is the very fact that God’s Word has allowed us to see within ourselves and has opened up our hearts to the truth that gives us the jitters. God’s Word has shown us the truth and we cringe at that truth!

It is a hard thing to be able to stand up and admit to the truth. It is a hard thing to be able to stand up and show others that truth. It is a hard thing to show others that it is also their undoing. But that is why God has given us His Word – so that we will know the truth and proclaim that truth to others. He wants us to be able to take the truth with us and to make sure that others see that knowing the truth is the most important thing that they should be focusing on and not the world and all its trimmings. Let us therefore take God’s Word with us, uphold it and proclaim it wherever we go!

Points to Ponder:

Do you like eating good things?

Are you ready for the truth?
