Saturday Reading: Colossians 4:2-4

Key Verse: Colossians 4:2

2  Continue in prayer and watch in it with thanksgiving,

Devotion:

I always feel split between feeling like I am doing the right thing and feeling like others will think that I am doing the wrong thing when I write about verses like these. But in truth I suppose that I am also asking for prayer as well as encouraging you all to pray for those that bring God’s Word to you. Just as I do lift up my teachers in prayer, so should we all because it is through our teachers that we receive God’s Word. I love sitting down in front of my bible and PC and constructing devotions as God feeds me. Always these devotions come from my heart because they reflect things that are happening in my life – I would hate to be a psychologist trying to make sense of me now!

As we do lift up our spiritual teachers in prayer we should do so with thanksgiving because of the light that they bring into our lives; but not just our lives but to all those that they can reach through the work that they do. Each day I lift up people who are very special to me: those that I know are taking God’s Word with them every day and trying to make a difference. I lift up my prayers in love because I know that God will expect nothing less from me for all the love that He has shown me through them.

One thing we do all need is plain English explanations sometimes and for those we need to come to ordinary people who are living their lives with God. God shows us so much through His Word but He also instructs us through watching other Christians at work in what they do; He encourages us and moulds us through every little detail that He allows into our lives. A history of pictures or love, grace and mercy are set before us in the hope that we too can walk in that way after seeing how they can by depending on their God. Depend on God and walk with them. Depend on God and grow through His wisdom and might.

Points to Ponder:

Who inspires you?

How often do you pray for their strength and guidance?
