Thursday Reading: Ephesians 6:10-18
Key Verse: Ephesians 6:18
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching to this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Devotion:
Have you ever noticed how this passage ends – to paraphrase somewhat – “above all, have faith (which will protect you) and depend on your salvation and God’s Word and lift up your prayers constantly”. When we look at the whole armour of God we should never forget that we need to rely on our faith. Yes it is going to let us down at times, but it is our faith that will ultimately keep us going. We can know the truth by making sure that we go and find it out; for once we do find it out we know on the inside that it is the truth. This is not some fairy-tale but God’s Word we are reading here. If we cannot rely on God for the truth then we may as well give up because we certainly cannot ever expect anyone else to always give us the truth!
But just knowing the truth, relying on it and keeping it is not quite enough. We need to get back to God on this one because that is also one of His requirements – that we do stay in contact with Him. I have never been that good at staying in contact with people because I seem to spend far too much time thinking of them… And when you are constantly thinking of someone, you feel like they are always with you… But it is the act of contacting them that will keep that friendship or relationship going, not the act of thinking about it!
Now we cannot take a casual walk through the garden of Eden and await God’s entrance like Adam and Eve used to be able to do. Instead we have to lift up our prayers to Him constantly so that we can be in conversation with Him. We have His Word and we have our faith to keep us encouraged – but that is only one way. We need to complete the transaction by lifting up our prayers to our Awesome God! Be committed in your prayer time!
Points to Ponder:
Do you keep in contact with others?
How good are you at keeping in contact with God?
