Friday Reading: Titus 3:1-3

Key Verse: Titus 3:2

2  to speak evil of no one, not being quarrelsome, but forbearing, showing all meekness to all men.

Devotion:

The book of Titus may be short but there is so much we can gain from it; just like other parts of God’s Word we find so much that God wants us to know written into such a short book. And yet man tries to shorten God’s Word even further! What can we hope to achieve by taking away some of His Word or adding to His Word? God has given us all that He has given for a reason – because it is the truth that we need to know.

So when we are encouraged to change our lifestyle such that it fits in with these few verses, it is not just because He wanted something else to be written down but rather that this is something that we need to do! Trying to be a rebel whilst saying you are a Christian is like taking a great work of art and adding your own finishing touches to make it right. You are ruining something that should be the way that it is. You are imposing your rather crude ways over perfection that God has laid down for us. God wants us to try to live according to that perfect way that He has shown us.

The Lord knows that we will never be able to live that perfect life and He has already shown us that He is willing to forgive us for those things we do wrong. He has even demonstrated how much He will still love us. So why do we think that we can go one step further each day and try to bend the truth a little more at a time? We can’t. Don’t even try it. God knows what we are like and He knows what we will get up to. He has given us the warnings and the instructions before we go there so that we can avoid making those mistakes before we get there. All we need do is listen to His instruction.

Points to Ponder:

Do you like to rebel?

Did God ever tell you to rebel?
