Tuesday Reading: Acts 17:23

Key Verse: Acts 17:23

23  For as I passed by and saw the things you worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Not knowing then whom you worship, I make Him known to you.

Devotion:

Have you ever been to a gathering of people that have claimed to be Christians and yet you wondered whom they are lifting up? Maybe this has been a meeting with just one other person or a small group in a house, or worse, a church. It is very sad that people are looking to so many other things in life rather than looking to God. There is only one God and that is our Lord God in heaven. If He is not the one being lifted up as God then there has got to be questions asked about whom the people are worshipping.

This does not mean that we all have to worship in the same way, nor that we have to meet in the same place; the only stipulation should be that we follow the first commandment in this case and make sure that there are no other gods that we hold up before our Lord God in heaven. It is no use saying that we worship an ‘unknown god’ or a ‘hidden god’ because God has shown Himself and has made sure that we do know about Him through His Word. God is God. He alone is God. He alone deserves our worship; not man, not woman, not beast, not cross, not statue, just God.

The Greeks are just one people who are known for their many gods in the past. Nowadays we do have religions where they still have hundreds of gods and they try to appease each of them in their own way. If you were told that you had to love 100 wives, how would you be able to share your love to each of them so that they felt like they were the most important person in your life? As soon as you turned your attention to one of them all the others are being rejected. God is God alone. Treat Him as such!

Points to Ponder:

What do you worship in life?

How important is God in your life?
