21 And the man was watching her, keeping silent, in order to know whether Jehovah had prospered his journey or not.
Devotion:
How many times in your life have you asked God to hurry up? Maybe you have not asked Him out loud but thought that He should be hurrying up because you are running out of patience! It is very hard to wait on the Lord some times, especially when it comes to things such as your personal life; your love. Isaac listened to God and obeyed God, but that did not stop Him from being enthusiastic when He saw Rebekah! You can almost imagine him rushing across to make sure that he does not miss out when Rebekah walked to get water…
We always seem to be in a rush to get things done and very rarely wait on God for everything; or is that just me? I do know that it is hard to wait when you just want something to happen yesterday but when it does eventually happen you will see a few things. The first is that it is the right time for it to happen – right in God’s books and not necessarily in your own mind! The next is that the right thing will happen – not necessarily the way that you envisaged things happening.
Does that mean that we will never get what we want or that we will not like the things that God does in our lives? No, certainly not. God would not be displaying His wonderful love for us if He were to force us into situations that we would never want to go into, nor is He going to force us into a relationship that we do not want. Instead God will work things out such that we will get the very best that we could ever hope for as well as Him getting to glory for what He is about to do in our lives.
It is hard to wait on God. It is hard not to tell Him to hurry up. It is hard to accept that He does actually know what is best for us. It will never be hard to accept the great things He does in our lives!
Points to Ponder:
Are you growing impatient?
Do you watch and wait on God?
