Wednesday Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:3-10

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 6:3

3  We are in nothing giving cause of stumbling, in no way, so that the ministry may not be blamed,

Devotion:

Last week during our Awana (younger youth club at church) lesson we were reminded that we are teachers all the time whether we like it or not. The way that we are teachers is because we are ‘on display’ as Christians all the time. In other words, whether we have considered it or not, we are an example for Christ from the time we are saved onward. That was not something I had always kept in mind after becoming a Christian but it is something that is always on my mind as a youth leader now.

If we continue to behave as if we are ‘normal’ people then how is anyone supposed to find out about God? If we continue to act like the fools that we were (as defined by Psalm 14:1) then we will certainly not be able to show others that Christ is different! It would not be an easy task to try and show someone what a banana is like if you show them an apple! So why should we try to describe Christ when we act like fools?

When we choose to follow Christ we choose a life that is different from this world; a life that the world will not like because it is a life that does tend to get many people upset. Why should we be acting different when the rest of the world wants to hide in their sin and shame? The answer is simple – because that is what God wants from us. Choosing a life with Christ does mean that we will come up against many things and against all manner of odds. We will face people who take a dislike to us just because we stand up for what is righteous. We will continue to face similar fates in life to those around us; we will be involved in the same earthquakes and other disasters but we can know that our God has our souls firmly in His grip!

Points to Ponder:

Do you see yourself as different?

Has God reminded you that you are different?
