Sunday Reading: Jeremiah 33:1-3
Key Verse: Jeremiah 33:3
3 Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and inscrutable things which you do not know.
Devotion:
No matter how smart we think we are, no matter how far we get up in life, no matter how much we progress over and above others, we do have to remember just who we serve! We were created by God. We have been placed in our positions in life by God. We have been allowed the things in life that we have by our God. We serve God. His name is Jehovah. And yet He still takes time to remind Jeremiah that we need to call on Him and ask Him for things in our lives.
There is nothing that we can do to try and show God that we deserve anything. There is nothing we can do to try and impress God. What we really need to do is to come to Him humbly before Him and make our requests known to Him. But it is not just about asking Him for the things which we think that we need but rather making sure that we listen to what He has in store for us. If we do not know what He has in store for us then it stands to reason that we do not know all that we actually need from Him either. But we can thank our God that He does know exactly what is best for each one of us.
The Old Testament prophets show us time and time again that listening to God is exactly what we have to do; but we also have to be prepared to go forward and do things that we do not know yet. Many prophets did run the other way at first or made excuses but saw the merit of listening to God in the end. When we are placed in a position like that we have no other thing to do but to petition God for wisdom and the wherewithal to be able to follow His will – which He knows is best for us. And because He does know what is best for us, He certainly will supply us with the tight tools for the job in hand when we do ask.
Points to Ponder:
Do you stumble when faced with new things?
Are you already listening to God?
