Saturday Reading: Proverbs 19:20-22

Key Verse: Proverbs 19:21
21  There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Devotion:
One of the hardest things to accept sometimes is advice especially when you don’t want it! No matter how wise the advice may be, if we are not looking for it then we may not want to entertain it at all. The more that we devise our own ways and plan things by ourselves and for ourselves, the less we want to accept advice from others; and yes I am guilty of that as well because there are times when I just don’t want to accept that anyone can know better than I can. But the more that I walk my walk with God the more that I have begun to realise that He has placed us all on this world together so that we can support each other as well as live together.

But we always seem to get to that point when we find out that we do actually know what was best at that one point in time; or at least that is how we see it because nobody else was right. But then when we take time to think things through we will see that God was always there and He was always giving us advice when we sought it. His advice is always right, is always perfect and is always what we need and when we need it… if we listen…

We all like to think that we are the kind ones, the ones that care for others and the ones that others will turn to in time of need. But then when push comes to shove and we are called to help just when we can’t or when we don’t want to, things turn turtle and we find we are lacking. And then when we are the ones looking for help from others and we ask at an inopportune time we find others lacking. The one thing we will find in our relationship with God is that He is never found wanting and we will never need more from Him than we receive. Yes there may well be times when we want more than He is giving us, but we will not need more than He has already supplied.

Our goal with our relationship with Christ should be that we admit that He is all we need and that He shall supply our every need. For as long as we do rely on those facts and live with that utter respect for Him we shall always be reminded that we are living a fulfilled life. And as long as we stay close to God, evil will not visit us.

Points to Ponder:
Do you look for advice?

Do you accept God’s advice?
