Saturday Reading: Psalm 22:1-10
Key Verse: Psalm 22:8
8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Devotion:
Even when we do place our faith and trust in God we are going to face rough times; even when we are trusting in Him for so much we will still face adversity. And you know what? People around us are going to see what is happening and they are going to mock us saying “If your God is so great – let Him save you from what is happening now”. Round about that time doubt is going to set in and you may well turn round and start blaming God for the things that are going wrong in your life. Well, stop it!
I know some of us can quote terrible things that have happened in our lives and we could turn round and ask “where was God” but the longer that we stay with God the more we will be able to understand why things happen in our lives. Giving up and saying that the road is too rocky to travel on or that the thorns are too prickly for us to bear is not going to make them go away. Pleading continually with God for Him to guide us through these difficult times is what is going to help us most. If we are willing to listen to our God when things are going wrong instead of listening to the complaints around us and inside us, then we will be in a much better place!
A SatNav system quietly continues to try to guide you in the direction that it believes is the best for you to follow. Whilst they do not always get things right like our God will, they are pretty good tools that will get us out of a tight spot when we need them to – so long as we trust that they are leading us in the right direction! We need to place our trust in God, always. Not just when things are tight or failing but always. If we try to override the SatNav and go our own way we may well find ourselves in an even tighter spot – until we start listening to it and calmly following the directions.
Now we may turn round and say “But I am following God”, “But I am trusting Him”. I used to think that I was doing things right because everything was going well, and then when things went wrong I questioned how they could go wrong… If we are the ones trying to go our own way when things are going well instead of listening to God, then we may well find ourselves in a tight spot before too long. We need to trust in God, always, to get the best direction from Him in our lives. Always!
Points to Ponder:
Do you like taking chances?
God does not ask you to take chances!
