Saturday Reading: 1 John 1:1-4

Key Verse: 1 John 1:4
4  And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Devotion:
Have you ever noticed that in order to get the most out of things in life we have to hear the truth, accept that truth and even live that truth. It is when we start to live a lie or try to cover up things with a lie that we fall short of peace and an enjoyable life. God saw the horrible state that man got himself in when he gave in to sin and does not want us to keep going back there. Instead He has given us great men who are willing to bring us the truth and share it with us so that we may live a full and happy life with Him.

It was the disciples who saw Jesus Christ, lived with Him, were taught by Him and grew to know Him as the true Son of God. Because of that experience they were more than willing to spread the Gospel to wherever they could so that others would be able to live with Him in their lives. Now you may be thinking along the lines of them not living very nice lives when you see what happened to each of them in turn; the disciples were persecuted for trying to teach the Jews about Jesus.

But then when we read words like this from John we begin to understand just how wonderful life is with Christ. No it’s not going to be a bed of roses and we are not going to have everything go our own way, but we are going to be able to find that same peace and happiness that those disciples found in living with Christ. The disciples knew that eternal life was within their grasp through Jesus Christ and that was enough to give them peace enough to continue living their lives for Him no matter what became of them.

It is that same joy that God wanted to share with His people all along that the disciples finally got to recognise. Unfortunately for them their lives were cut short because they dared to stick up for the truth when everyone else was dead against that truth. God would like us to live our lives in a way that He knows we will be happy with because He loves us so. He wants us to experience His love and the peace that a life with Him can give to us. To gain that peace we have to get to know Christ ourselves and live our lives with Him and that means inviting Him into our lives, to be a part of our lives so that we can enjoy that peace and joy the disciples found in Him.

Points to Ponder:
Do you seek a peaceful life?

Have you invited Christ in?
