10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Devotion:
The apostles had learned how important prayer was; not just a prayer when you need it but constant and heartfelt prayers lifted up to God. It was not just prayers lifted up asking for help for others but also prayers lifted up to God asking for knowledge and wisdom; and again not just any knowledge and wisdom but to be able to identify and even to be filled with that wisdom to understand God’s will. Now they did not have bibles that they could read to be able to gain such knowledge; instead they were given that knowledge and wisdom by God so that they could pass it on to us – what a way to answer prayers!
In order for us now to gain most from our bibles we have to lift up our prayers to our Father to ask for wisdom to understand why the Apostles wrote what they did and what it should mean to us. God wants us to live a closer life to Him through understanding more about Him and His ways. As we draw closer we can understand more about what He wants from us in our lives. As we grow closer to Him we also start acting more in line with what He requires from us.
As we start to act more in line with His will in our lives we also start to find that our lives are changed to be more like His – and that should be our ultimate goal, to be more like Him. And as we act more like Him we find that we gain more understanding of His ways. In short we grow closer to Him, act more like Him, gain understanding about His ways and become better witnesses for Him.
The best thing about all of this is that even when we feel like we have reached the end of the road or that we are about to fail in so many things, God has more than enough power, might, strength, knowledge and wisdom to strengthen us to be able to do His good will and to lift up His name and glorify Him. That is God’s will – that we can be more effective witnesses for Him by being more like Him and relying on Him for His strength to keep us glorifying Him.
Points to Ponder:
How often do you need building up?
How often do you rely on God?
