Wednesday Reading: Psalm 86:8-11

Key Verse: Psalm 86:9
9  All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

Devotion:
This morning as we met for prayers in the old village church we were reminded of the majesty of our awesome God with the frost thick in the air but the sun shining over everything as well. The frost sparkled on the leafless trees bringing them back to life in a way that no painter could hope to catch. It is mornings like this that should make us stop and wonder, just how much can God do? But then we do not have to wonder too much as we embrace the enormity of the task that God has firmly in His grip – making sure that we live!

No matter how many gods people can think of, none will ever compare to God Himself as we come to terms with all that He is doing for us. I know that He has me firmly but gently in His grip, taking care of so much around me I cannot hope to know the depth and breadth of His knowledge and wisdom; from the tiniest ice crystal on a seemingly lifeless tree to the largest star in our universe – one mankind is probably yet to find! And in amongst all of this majesty our God carefully and gently lifts us up and guides us toward the best goal in our lives – our eternal home with Him in heaven.

It is Him alone that we should be listening to as mankind cannot ever hope to fill his mind with enough knowledge and wisdom to even stay alive, never mind cater for the rest of the world or universe. And in amongst all of this God has given us His Word, our bibles, through which we can know all that we need to know in order to accept Him as Lord and Saviour so that He can lift us up into His own arms. There is nothing we can do that will elevate ourselves off this earth, and yet God can do exactly that through His Word.

He has given us the promises that we can stand upon and shown us the direction that we need to look toward in order to hear Him properly; all we need do is accept that word and listen out for His instruction. I have found that hard in the past, but the more that I am able to read His Word and mediate on what He has done for me, the easier it is for me to know what He wants in my life. I praise my Awesome God for giving me that truth, and His Son.

Points to Ponder:
Who could make a planet?

Do you trust God, I mean really trust Him?
