April 22: Genesis 2:7

Key Verse: Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Devotion:
God was purposeful in His creation. He created order. He then created man and placed us in this order giving us the freedom to exercise our choice. He did not just create things and shove us in the middle and see what happened; His purpose was to create things in a specific order and to have it all sorted out so that we would have the best of everything. Just because we have broken things and let Him down does not mean that we are now left to our own devices.

God continues to reach out to us, to guide and to keep us. When we fall down He sets us back up again and gives us a new start. If we run off in the other direction He shows us the way home. If we run into His arms He holds us tight. We are never alone!

God continues to give us what we need and we need to know and remember that. If we start to have ideas that we are the ones who are doing it all then we will fall short and we will fail; our disappointment will be focused on our own selves and our own abilities. But when we allow God to work properly in our lives we are shown direction, strengthened on the journey and when we fail, given comfort. It is God who is the one close by our sides and He is the one who has been there from the very beginning of our existence.

Without God we are just humans and we will act like the mammals that we are; many would call us animals. We can try to emulate others as much as we like but until that moment when God gives us a new life we may as well be the same as those animals. God has set man apart and continues to set us apart. We still have to be the ones to choose to believe in Him and choose to follow Him. When we take those steps He never leaves our sides.

Points to Ponder:
What made you take that first breath in life?

Who is with you every breath you take?
