May 22: Exodus 2:24-25

Key Verse: Exodus 2:24
And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

Devotion:
I find it amazing that God continues to remember us even though we do so much in our lives to go against what He stands for. God created us and He continues to watch over every aspect of our lives day by day; it was described to me recently as being like a CCTV camera constantly following us. God watches closely so that He can help us through our daily lives. Those lives we lead are often all over the place and yet He continues to be there with us.

The Hebrew people were facing pretty rough times under the Egyptians and they were now groaning under the strain. We may question why they had to go through so much after God had made the covenants with Abraham and Isaac but to try and understand God’s ways is beyond us. If we are able to accept His ways and continue to trust in Him we will find out just how much He does care for us. God was listening as the Hebrew people lifted up their prayers to Him, living under the banner of oppression as they were.

God really does understand us. It may sound like a bit of a cop out saying that God understands all of our ways until you remember that he created us. It is God who put us together and not any random occurrence of nature. God created us in His image and we hold a very special place in His heart. He listened to the people and He understood what they were going through; but they had to go through this for what was to come.

The promise God had made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was to bring them out of being afflicted, out of the hand of strangers and into a land they could call their own because God would give them the land. God had compassion on their situation and changes were about to be made; not by using the greatest men in power but by using Moses, a man with many problems and a murderer! God understands our faults and our mistakes. He just wants to have a good relationship with us – when we let Him into our lives!

Points to Ponder:
Do you restrict God in your life?

Will you call on His name?
