May 24: 2 Corinthians 6:1-3
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says, “In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation.
Devotion:
Being reminded about the promises of God is a way by which we can strengthen each other’s resolve to make sure we live our lives according to God's Word and will. Hundreds of years before Christ gave His life on the cross, the prophet Isaiah wrote these words from God: “In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;” which are reflected or remembered here by Paul's letter to the church at Corinth.
God promised to make sure we have a means of Salvation and that it would be soon; not forgetting God is not actually bound by time, who are we to argue about a few hundred years? God promised and He delivered. He went further than anyone had expected by giving us His Son. He made sure we would no longer have to continue to try to live up to His standards and making sacrifices all the time.
Paul's reminder to us is that “now is the accepted time”. We live now in God’s time of grace. We do not know when this period of grace will end. We do not know how soon or how far in the future... but what we do know is when that time passes, it will be gone permanently! We need to be able to encourage people to come forward to find out about God so they can join us in Salvation. We need to encourage others by living our life in a way which they can see we are Christians and we live for Christ. We know He has already lived for us, we know He has already died for us, we know He has already risen for us... we also know that His promise to return will be done just as each of His promises have already been done. We just have to make sure we are ready!
Points to Ponder:
Are you always ready on time in the mornings?
God's timing is always perfect, we just have to be ready...
