May 28: Proverbs 22:17-21
Key Verse: Proverbs 22:19
So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you.
Devotion:
Solomon's advice to all who read his words is sound advice coming from a foundation built on nothing less than The Lord God. Solomon was given wisdom and understanding beyond that which he asked for from The Lord. His wisdom is written down for us and passed down so we may continue to learn from it. His primary advice is simply to listen to words of wisdom and apply them into our hearts. For as long as we do keep those words and wisdom remembered within our hearts, we will show others those words through the things which we do. Learning is one thing, applying is the next logical step!
But he makes sure we have no misapprehension about where this wisdom comes from, and that is from The Lord. Our trust needs to be firmly placed in His Word (God’s Word) so we will continue in the path He has set for us and be more able to be sustained and guided by it. As long as we are going to apply such wisdom to our hearts, our bodies will be more likely to follow in Gods will.
Making sure these words are held within our hearts means that we need to listen, learn, ponder about them and meditate on them. Without this sort of dedication towards Gods Word, we will never get the true meaning God wants us to gain from it. Without us putting in the effort to actually sit down and listen to Him, we will not learn from Him. God wants each of us to learn and apply His Word. He has given us a bible which has so much held within it that we cannot fail to know what He wants in our lives – as long as we are willing to listen, learn and apply it!
Points to Ponder:
How much have you learned from your parents?
How much have you learned from God?
