Friday Reading: Hebrews 7 20-25

25 Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost those who come unto God by Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.
Devotion:
I like watching programs like “The Father Dowling Mysteries” but each time I see Father Philip (the ladder climbing one) I can’t help but think that there are some who call themselves priests but have other motives in mind rather than God’s Work. Don’t get me wrong, I know there are so many more who are doing God’s Work but there are always a few who rock the boat. We live in a world like that where there are always a few who will seek their own rewards over and above everyone else’s; how long will it take them to see that what they are seeking is certainly not going to last.
In the times of early Israel, the priests were born into the position, being from the tribe of Levi – they did not take an oath to become a priest. Nowadays all priests do take an oath to serve their position as best they can and to serve God. But, as this verse reminds us, that is just an oath of his or her own and not of The Lord’s. Christ was made a high priest with an oath, God’s oath, which will stand forever. Psalms 110 is where the words come from describing how God swore that Christ should be a priest and herein re-told for our remembrance.
Christ stands before us as our High Priest, given to us under an oath by God so that He may stand forever as our High Priest. Christ gave us instruction that whomever comes to God through Him will be saved forever. This gives us our unchangeable, solid rock upon which we can build our belief and our faith. This is the unchangeable priesthood into which we come and nothing and nobody can ever separate us from this priesthood because God has promised us so! This is His promise to us that we may obtain a much better life afterwards than we have here. These are the facts; base your life on the facts and not on your own desires...
