Friday Reading: 1 Thessalonians 3:6-8

Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 3:8
8  for now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.

Devotion:
How many times have you wondered whether you are doing the right thing? How many more times have you wondered whether you are actually making a difference? All it takes is for one person to say something and you then know that what you are doing is affecting many more lives than just your own! In his letter to the churches of Thessalonica the apostle gave thanks for the encouragement that Timothy was able to bring back with him. It may only have been a few words describing how people were keeping their faith in Christ but it was those few words in a time of need that made all the difference.

When we are down God will find a way that we can be encouraged. It may well be in a manner that we have not foreseen or it may only be in a time when we are giving up because our faith seems to have run dry but we will find that God provides. Have you ever noticed how some things make a sudden U-turn just when you have given up hope, or something changes after you have allowed it to lapse? How does that make us feel to know that we have not had the patience to continue waiting?

Our faith is on permanent display whether we like it or not. If it were not so then how would others get to know about faith? Our faith is a tool that God can use to reach others. If our tools are not properly taken care of then we may well find that people get the wrong impression about our commitment. We need to be on the lookout at all times, but we also need to make sure that others can see that the tools that we use are in good order. If we don’t use our bibles people will think that they are not our tools. If we don’t use our prayers, people may think they are of no effect. If we don’t give God time then how do we expect others to do so either? We are on show for Christ.

Points to Ponder:
How used are your Christian tools?

Is your communion with God under question?
