Thursday Reading: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:14
14 Let all your things be done in charity.
Devotion:
It is good to be reminded that we need to watch and wait because we do not know the time when Christ will return; but watching and waiting signifies patience and that is something that God wants us to learn. Not just for Christ’s eventual return but in everything we do in life whilst living under His grace. It is no use being patient in one thing if we are then going to be impatient in other things because those will then be our stumbling blocks that will get us down and prevent us from moving on in our lives with Christ.
In his letter to the Corinthians the apostle reminded them that they need to be patient in their lives with each other too. Being able to stand fast in our faith in many walks of life will not only give us strength but will encourage others too. Our faith is always going to be put to test because of the things that Satan is going to hurl our way, but having a little patience will go such a long way because we will then see How God is able to do so many things. When we run out of patience our world seems to fall apart, but when we have patience and wait for God to be allowed to do His will and His way, then we see the fruit of our labour.
It is no good planting a seed, nurturing it for a few days and then giving up because it has not sprouted; we have to continue nurturing it throughout the plants life. Our walk with Christ has to be a continual thing and not a flash in the pan affair. God continues to be with us through everything so why should we every turn our backs on Him by giving in to impatience. If we are able to show a little love towards others when everyone else is giving in to impatience then we will be able to show them that God is in control because they will see in us something very special – our full and everlasting relationship with Christ. Have patience with love.
Points to Ponder:
Do you give in when things don’t go your way?
Do you take a step back and watch God work every now and again?
