Wednesday Reading: Luke 24:44-47
Key Verse: Luke 24:45
45 And He opened their mind to understand the Scriptures.
Devotion:
Can you imagine how frightened the disciples must have been when Jesus appeared in their midst after they had seen Him dead and buried? As He reminded them, all these things that had happened had had to happen because they had all been foretold and written in God’s Word already. We know that God cannot lie, so everything that was written down that had come from God had to happen. That is our best tool that we have – God’s written word.
It’s not a case of us having a whole bunch of words that we cannot understand or relate to because Christ wants us all to hear and believe the truth. He was and is that Truth and He continues to uphold that truth. It also means that He is going to do what He did with the disciples in order for that truth to be heard in the whole world – He is going to explain the scriptures to us! Have you ever wondered why He did not explain the scriptures to the disciples so that they could understand what was going to happen before it did? Well think about what you would have thought if someone tried to explain that they were going to die for you. Would you allow them to do that? Christ made sure that He was our perfect sacrifice before giving us the explanation of what He was going to do so that He could achieve exactly that!
Now that He has saved us from our sin debt we need to know the whole truth so that we can believe that whole truth; that is why He wants us to understand His Word. He came back to make sure the disciples understood what had happened so they could tell others. He will continue to explain His Word to us whenever we are willing to listen and learn. He wants us to know that it is through Him that we are saved just as He planned right from the start.
Points to Ponder:
Do you listen to the truth when it is told?
Are you listening to Christ?
