Tuesday Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 1:18
18  For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God.

Devotion:
We are often reminded that we should take up our own cross to show others and Christ that we are willing to do His will and follow on in His ways but this verse does not talk about that cross but rather the cross that Christ was crucified on. Both crosses would seem foolish to those who do not yet know Christ because they see them as a burden or a hardship that was not necessary. For anyone who does not know the circumstances of almost any situation they will see many things in life in a similar light and they will miss out on a whole lot more.

We can walk by something every day and not realise the treasure that lies within simply because we have chosen not to look. We could spend all our time looking into everything and finding a treasure now and again but turning up a whole lot more unwanted clutter. Or, we could choose to follow a guide book that knows of the treasures and that way we can see each of the treasures without having to spend all that other time looking for things that are not there. People who refuse to follow the bible are going to spend a whole lot of time and money trying to look for things that are not real or are false. The Lord does not want us to waste our time and money but rather to use it for the right things in life.

Teaching people about Christ and what He has done by going to that cross may well not agree with many people. We do not like to be reminded that we are bad or that someone else has given their life for us – both those things can make us feel bad. We would rather be reminded of the good and happy things in life so that we can be made happy without having to do anything. Well, life is just not like that. We do have to be reminded of the bad things in life so that we can compare them with those good things. We do need to be reminded of the bad things we do so that we will be encouraged to do good rather than repeat those bad things. The more we know of the treasures of God the more we can find strength through Him!

Points to Ponder:
What are you seeking in life?

Have you found God’s treasures?
