Thursday Reading: Luke 17:3-6

Key Verse: Luke 17:5
5  And the apostles said to the Lord, Give us more faith.

Devotion:
How many times have you asked God to give you more faith? It is a sad thing that our faith wanes when it is tried. It is sad that we cannot stand on our faith through everything – but that is exactly what God has told us to do. He knows that we will grow weary and that our faith may well falter but He also knows that we do need support for that faith to continue. That is why He gives us the people we have around us. There are going to be times when we think that those around us are just not keeping their end of the bargain, when we think that those around us are not doing their fair share of things or are breaking our rules. Those are the times when they need us most.

God has given us the Christians around us that we may all be able to support each other, encourage each other and grow in Christ together. It is little wonder then that He says we should meet together to worship Him. The more that we can be encouraged by each other, the stronger our faith will become. Faith does not come through experience but rather through the Word of God (Romans 10:17). If we are able to share Gods Word with each other then we will grow strong together.

And yet we still turn to experience in order to have our faith strengthened. This is actually quite normal for us but it is not what God had in mind. God wants our faith to be based on His promises and not on what we have witnessed through what others have done. God wants our faith based on Him and Him alone. There will always be times when our faith is tried and tested and those are the time when we need to turn to God’s Word for the answer because He will answer us through His Word on anything that we care to take to Him. Don’t always expect and answer as soon as you pick up His Word because just maybe He wants you to learn a bit more before He gives you the answer!

Points to Ponder:
How often do you turn to God?

How often do you depend on His Word?
