Wednesday Reading: Acts 24:24-27
Key Verse: Acts 24:26
26 He also hoped that silver would be given him by Paul, that he might free him. Therefore he also frequently sent for him and talked with him.
Devotion:
One thing we all do is to get more tied up in our thoughts and our own ways instead of following God’s ways. We can never seem to let go of the world around us and focus on God until we find ourselves in a tight spot – then suddenly we seem to be able to focus on Him! But when we are enjoying a relaxed life or find ourselves being blessed with many things we far too often allow our minds to wonder off into other things instead of being focus on our God. Thankfully we have a patient God!
So what sort of things get our minds wondering? Well, it’s all of those things that we allow into our lives. It is the music, the books, the people, the worldly ways – all of those things are the things that pull us away from our daily walk with God. It’s the things in life that we take for normal and the things that we think are plain and ordinary. That is why we do have to sit down with God’s Word and focus on Him daily. That is why we have to take a step back from the world and focus on Him. How else are we going to be able to know what is right and wrong.
When we ‘act normally’ we find that there are all sorts of things in our lives that we do, say, take in and generally accept. But if we take a step backwards and take a look at it from someone else’s point of view then we often find that we do have things in our lives that should not be there! Felix was a man who was doing his own thing and I am sure that the times that he had with Paul must have sparked some thoughts in his mind. But because he was living the life that he was accustomed to, he expected things to continue on in that way – that is why he was waiting for a bride and that is why he went against his own judgement and left Paul in jail rather than doing the honest thing and releasing him. We need to take a step back and focus on God before we make too many mistakes too...
Points to Ponder:
What do you let into your life?
What do you think God thinks about your life?
